In the make up room Steve’s first client of the day was Stuart of Big Brother 9 fame, who had come in for male make up tips. Along with his assistant Steadman, Steve was ready to wack the slap on the famous male make up wearer.

“I though you did wear make up, to be honest,” Steadman said.

“I do wear liner ay,” Stuart confirmed. “But I haven’t got any on now like

Steadman and Lucinda have spent the afternoon receiving expert training in art of performing a cutthroat razor shave. Guest expert Jason Shankey has had them holed up for hours going over the finer points of the shave. After training them in soaking the clients face, demonstrating a close shave on a willing model it was time for Lucinda and Steadman’s to practice…on balloons.

“Right, just cover the balloon as you would someone’s face,” Jason explained, referring to the shaving cream. “It’s about getting the right angle; scrape all the cream off without bursting the balloon.”

Lucinda and Steadman cautiously began scraping their balloons with the sharp razors.

“I have to say you’re doing very well,” Jason observed.

“It’s the teacher,” Lucinda flattered.

“It is,” Steadman agreed.

It wasn’t even flat it was flat with the round edges , I Just looked manky.

I had blonde you aint never seen a black man with blonde hair, I looked like a Yetti.

This is the only salon, right here, me, I do all the experiments on me and I learnt the hard way and the most painful way of beauty.

He doesn't wear as much make-up as you, what you talking about.

The trainees have arrived, the scissors sharpened and the wax heated and it’s time for Lee Stafford and his Assistant Manager Steve Strange to guide another batch of celebrity trainees through the most intense three weeks known to hairdressing.

“Morning, morning, morning my trainees," Lee said introducing himself and Steve. "Let me tell you a story” he started before launching into his hairdressing history. “And the morale of the story is there’s no such thing as a stupid question,” he finally finished.

The trainees looked attentive as Lee continued to wax lyrical about his ambitions for The Academy before announcing: “This is the best Academy on earth, and it has to be the best Academy on earth otherwise you’ve got more chance of plaiting fog.”

“You are going to be travelling a treacherous rocky river, there’s no doubt about that and I‘m gonna be your oars; I am your oars,” he boomed dramatically. “Call me what you want, your coach, your confidante, your guardian angel but make no mistake about it I am your boss for the next three weeks. It’s my Academy, you signed up for it, it’s a one way ticket and it’s my way or the highway.”

So that’s it, the trainees are already running around like headless chickens but will they become the “swans” Lee wants them to be? Only time will tell.

Stedman is made to Wax a man's legs in the treatment room, but poor Sted has to leave the room as he feels sick, physically, at the thought. Sted manages to wax.

Stedman gets to cut a blonde womans hair and names the cut The Pearl and is given 8 out of 10 and 11 for Personality.

Stedman shot to fame in the 80s when his brother and sisters formed the British pop and R&B group Five Star. Known for their glamorous image, distinctive matching costumes and choreographed dance routines, Five Star notched up a string of chart-topping hits including System Addict, Can't Wait Another Minute and Rain or Shine. The group shrunk to a trio in 2001, but Stedman continued to perform with sisters Denise and Lorraine until 2006.

In September 2006, Stedman appeared on TV in The All Star Talent Show on Five, showcasing his recently resurrected ballet skills before a live audience. Viewers voted him in third place. Last year Stedman returned to the studio to record his debut solo album.

His experience of hairdressers in the past has not been positive, as they always seem to cut his hair too short. But after wearing the same simple style for many years, Stedman is now ready for a change, and is looking forward to getting Lee's input into a makeover. His idea of perfect hair is Halle Berry's hair - 'short and wicked' – and he'd even consider going short himself.

Stedman is looking forward to working with Steve, having crossed paths with him a few times during the 80s.
